What Month Were You Born?

Modern Birthstones

The official birthstone list is from the American National Association of Jewelers, Jewelers of America. These gemstones were officially adopted in 1912. In the US, this is the accepted list. Tanzanite was added as an additional birthstone for December by the American Gem Trade Association in October 2002.

Traditional Birthstones

This list is of the older, more traditional birthstones that reflect various societal customs and traditions from as far back as the 15th century. Some ancient cultures have different lists of birthstones: Arabic, Hebrew, Hindu, Italian, Polish, Roman, and Russian

Most people are familiar with precious and semi-precious gemstones because of the popularity of birthstones.
